Texas Notary Education Course

Beginning January 1, 2026, all new and renewing Texas Notaries must complete the Texas Secretary of State’s Notary Education Course before completing their notary application.

Important: Only the education course provided by the Texas Secretary of State satisfies this requirement. Courses offered by private companies do not replace the state-required course.

The course is completed online through the Texas Secretary of State’s SOS Notary Portal and includes approximately 45 minutes of training videos, followed by a 20-question, open-book assessment. A score of 70% or higher is required to pass.

The course fee is $20 per attempt and is paid directly to the Texas Secretary of State.

Only after you have passed the course you can order the bond online.
